Too funny not to post

I realize this might be old news, but it rocks. I’ll have what he’s having please! :)

Jeff and I are off to the Colorado Avalanche NHL game tonight. I intend to have a hoarse voice when it’s over, and bloody knuckles from jumping in the dog fight. RIP HIS HEAD OFF! (Old School, KY Jelly Wrestling fight. hello?!) Legs are back. More on that later. I think I might be healthy again! I’ll find out for sure tomorrow…..

Still cooling my jets

We have had impeccable weather in the Denver area all week long. I haven’t been able to do any big rides, but I have been able to get out for about an hour and a half a day to take it all in.

My body is slowly recovering from illness, but I am not quite there yet. The last 2 days were a HUGE improvement from Sunday, but alas, the fatigue monster has not let me out of his clenches and I am still running about one zone too low for my perceived effort on the bike and my legs feel like they are full of lactic acid. I am leaving for 24 Hours of Old Pueblo in one week’s time, so hopefully I’m jamming by then.

I have bumped into some good friends this week out on the bike – Adam Hoppe, Judy Freeman, Nick Stevens, and Sean Madsen so lucky me!

Hope everyone is having a good week!

For you sports science nuts

I am a big time nerd when it comes to physiology, especially exercise phys. related material. First Endurance has a lot of really awesome scientific articles they publish that pique(thanks to Wordnerd for the correction) my interest. Some of their products work for me, some of them don’t… but I really like their effort to educate their clientelle, or anyone who might be interested.

Click here for a very detailed, informative article on the use of carbohydrates during exercise. I like this article because it seems to be mostly unbiased and is not an outright sell saying, “USE THIS PRODUCT”, plus it is backed up by a ton of different research sources. The engineering side of me likes that. I know you can’t believe everything you read, but I liked reading it!

Ball 1

I am starting to feel better today, although I am still pretty tired. I am going to hop on the road bike later to see how the body is feeling. Sunday, my HR was only 110-120 for a Z2 effort. Mind you, Z2 for me is 147-159. When I have a super low heart rate, it always means something bad is up. I am hoping to see regular numbers pop up with a given effort. If not, it’s more rest. Hopefully, tomorrow I will resume training.

Here are some Sunday photos that I haven’t posted yet…

I thought 3D glasses were the kind the guy in Back to the Future wore! I love that movie…

It’s tough to pull off being GQ in 3D glasses, but Kerkove does it well.

Sunday dinner. I am a foodie. I take almost as many pics of food as I do people. That would be an Odell’s IPA.

And my new Haribo obsession. I had to give in.

The Sour Spaghetti wets my whistle!!! Sorry little gummy bears, you’ve been had.

Win FREE Green Energy Stuff

I know a lot of us are interested in green energy. Click the image below if you’re interested. If not, ignore this post and check back later. ;)

It’s Sunbelievable! Ok, I know that’s cheesy, but it’s fun.  Since the economy sucks and we are all poor, here is a way to win some free stuff and to be eco-conscious.   It may appear that all I do is ride my bike (snicker), but I actually work as a Solar Design Engineer when I’m not on two wheels. Here at work, SRE is giving some stuff away. What can you win? A 2 kW solar system, HVAC work, Energy Audits, Home Energy Monitors. This is available in the Denver, Dallas, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio areas.

One thing that sucks about being an elite cyclist is that it’s easy to get sick. I can tell that my body has been fighting something over the past week, and it has caught up with me. I had a stomach bug on friday and saturday, and at the end of the ride saturday, I could tell something wasn’t right. Sat night was not so good. I felt feverish and weak, but woke up feeling refreshed Sunday AM. I tried to go out and ride yesterday, but was left feeling very weak, nauseated, and tired so I went home. I am spending the next day or 2 trying to get some rest and feel better.

Jeff and I went to see the 3D movie – My Bloody Valentine. It was very entertaining and fun since I don’t get out to the movies very much. The weather is going to be nice later this week and I am looking forward to feeling strong again!
